FAQ for Wood Chippers H-5: Commercial FAQs & Technical Guide
The Wood Chipper H-5 is a compact commercial wood chipper engineered to process light-to-medium timber, tree branches, pruning waste, and green materials up to 5 inches (125–130 mm) in diameter.
Designed for arborists, municipal maintenance teams, landscapers, and orchard managers, the H-5 delivers commercial-grade cutting performance in a lightweight, maneuverable frame that works well in tight urban accessways and residential jobsites.
- Maximum In-Feed Diameter: 5 inches (~125 mm to 130 mm) continuous capacity.
- Cutting System: High-inertia rotary cutting disc or drum fitted with reversible, heat-treated alloy steel knives.
- Power Options: Commercial-grade petrol or diesel engine (typically 18 HP to 25 HP) or tractor 3-point linkage PTO configuration.
- Hydraulic In-Feed: Single or dual hydraulic in-feed rollers with forward, neutral, and reverse functionality.
- Discharge Chute: 270° to 360° manually adjustable discharge chute with an adjustable deflector hood.
- Chassis / Mobility: Road-towable trailer with ADR-compliant running gear, or compact tracked / stationary skid mounting.
- Prunings & Limbs: Tree branches, hedgerow trimmings, leafy brush, and green waste up to 5 inches thick.
- Orchard & Vineyard Offcuts: Grapevines, fruit tree branches, citrus prunings, and woody canes.
- Dry Softwood & Hardwood: Seasoned timber offcuts, pine branches, and small logs within the 5-inch throat limit.
- Garden & Nursery Refuse: Palm fronds, ornamental brush, and dense woody debris.
The H-5 features a powered hydraulic in-feed roller that mechanically grips irregular, branched materials and pulls them toward the cutting knives at a steady, controlled rate.
- Eliminates Manual Forcing: Operators do not need to push material into the blades, lowering fatigue and reducing kickback risks.
- Crushes Side Branches: The serrated hydraulic roller crushes spreading branch forks, feeding them into the chipping throat without prior trimming.
- Reverse Control: In case of an obstruction or oversized timber, the in-feed roller can be instantly reversed using the control bar.
Yes. The H-5 comes equipped with an electronic “No-Stress” auto-feed control:
- The system continuously reads engine RPM.
- If dense hardwood causes engine speed to decline below the cutting threshold, the feed roller automatically pauses until flywheel RPM recovers.
- Once full power is restored, the feed roller automatically resumes feeding, preventing stalling, belt slip, and knife jams.
Loose tree pruning’s and bushy branches consist mainly of void air space.
Operating at high cutting speeds, the H-5 achieves volume reduction ratios between 6:1 and 10:1, turning up to 10 loads of bulky brush into a single dense load of fine, uniform wood chip mulch.
This substantially reduces skip bin hires, green waste tipping fees, and collection truck runs.
The machine complies with Australian workplace safety guidelines (AS/NZS 4024):
- Emergency Feed Control Bar: A mechanical safety bar lines the in-feed hopper, allowing operators to instantly stop or reverse the rollers from any angle.
- Extended In-Feed Hopper Tray: Keeps operators’ arms safely outside the reach of the in-feed rollers.
- Emergency Stop Buttons: Prominent dual-circuit mushroom E-stops for immediate power and hydraulic shutdown.
- Disc/Drum Lock Pin: A physical steel pin locks the rotor during blade maintenance to prevent accidental movement.
- Blade Inspection & Reversing: The H-5 features double-sided reversible knives. Check blades every 20–30 operating hours and flip or sharpen when cutting efficiency drops.
- Anvil Gap Adjustment: Maintain the bed knife (anvil) clearance at 1.0 mm to 1.5 mm to ensure clean, slice-cut chips rather than torn fibers.
- Hydraulic Fluid Care: Inspect oil levels, change hydraulic return filters at recommended intervals, and inspect hoses for rub points.
- Drive Belt Tension: Periodically check and tension the heavy-duty drive belts to prevent slip under heavy branch loads.
